About 10 Petals

Our Story

Who We
Are

A Place Like No Other

What Marda and Michael built from those back-road adventures became something this island has claimed as its own for more than 35 years — a gathering place, a room full of stories, a destination where first-time visitors became lifelong friends.

The Beginning

Est. 1993

It Started
With $20

In 1993, Marda Gunning spent the last $20 of their starting budget on a vintage coffee table from the '40s — picked up at the Bargain Box, hauled home with hope and a very good eye. That was the beginning.

From there, Marda and Michael Shanley loaded up a dented 17-passenger van — bought used from Hilton Head Prep, seats stripped out — and crisscrossed the Southeast hunting for treasures at estate sales and flea markets, their rescue dog Dice riding along for the journey.

The Community

35+ Years

A Community
Built With Love

Michael & Company Antiques & Consignments was never just a shop. It was a gathering place. A room full of stories. A destination where first-time visitors became lifelong friends, where every customer received a hand-signed thank-you note.

Marda curated with an extraordinary eye — furniture, art, objects of real quality and character. Michael brought warmth and energy to every corner of the floor. Together they created something rarer than any antique they ever sourced: a true community.

The Legacy

A New Chapter

The Same
Heart

10 Petals Antiques & Interiors steps into this story with deep reverence and genuine gratitude. We are keeping consignment at the heart of what we do — because those relationships, that trust, that community Marda and Michael spent 35 years building, is not something you set aside.

Our vision builds upon that foundation while embracing a broader idea of home — interiors that feel collected rather than decorated, personal rather than perfect, and deeply connected to the people who live within them.

Marda faced the last four years of her life with stage 4 cancer and showed up to that shop every single day with a smile. Her customers showed up too — with flowers, with notes, with love.

That is the measure of what she and Michael built here.
