It Started
With $20
In 1993, Marda Gunning spent the last $20 of their starting budget on a vintage coffee table from the '40s — picked up at the Bargain Box, hauled home with hope and a very good eye. That was the beginning.
From there, Marda and Michael Shanley loaded up a dented 17-passenger van — bought used from Hilton Head Prep, seats stripped out — and crisscrossed the Southeast hunting for treasures at estate sales and flea markets, their rescue dog Dice riding along for the journey.

Marda curated with an extraordinary eye — furniture, art, objects of real quality and character. Michael brought warmth and energy to every corner of the floor. Together they created something rarer than any antique they ever sourced: a true community.

Marda faced the last four years of her life with stage 4 cancer and showed up to that shop every single day with a smile. Her customers showed up too — with flowers, with notes, with love.
